Visit Greenfield Village
One of the great gifts in the vicinity of Redford is Greenfield Village. It’s a place where young ones can step back into a different world, into a place they never experienced before, and obtain a palpable sense of what life once was like.
Greenfield Village offers a number of fascinating activities. You can learn about the lab where Thomas Edison invented the incandescent light bulb or about the Wright Brothers’ invention of the airplane. Want to grab a bite? At Greenfield Village, you can do so from an 1830s-style menu! Come see what baseball was truly like back in the 1800s, or learn how to perform some of the old-time crafts, such as glass-making. If your children love rides, think about taking them on a journey along the Weiser Railroad.
Greenfield Village also hosts a number of events meant to inspire and engage young children. Take the kids to the PNC Tinkering for Tots Pre-School Program, which takes place on the second Monday of each month from August to October. They can learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math by playing with different materials, making crafts ,and playing with sounds, looking at special artifacts, and by hearing inspiring stories.
Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum
Some days, children have so much energy and really deserve a fun-filled treat that is fueled by adventure and play. Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum is a 5,000-square -foot space filled with vintage coin-operated machines, nostalgic items, special oddities, video games, and more. Kids can collect tickets and win prizes. You can also book a birthday party at Marvin’s. Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum is open every day of the week. It’s located at 31005 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills.
Play at Belle Isle Conservancy
Belle Isle Conservancy is a beautiful park where kids can enjoy wonderful family-oriented activities. It’s 982 acres large and has plentiful historic, environmental, and cultural resources to offer. It features an aquarium, a conservatory, the Great Lakes Museum, the Memorial Fountain, and more.
The aquarium offers a stunning array of creatures your children can visit. The salt water is shipped from the ocean, and conservancy hosts the only known collection of seven different species of gar fish. You will also see fish from as far away as Africa and South America. If your kids are craving some fun in the sun, they can also check out Belle Isle Beach, which is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Another great spot is the Belle Isle Nature Center.
