The base trim features LED headlamps, black door handles, black rear and front bumpers, dual chrome exhaust tips, LED taillamps, power-adjustable and heated mirrors with integrated blind-spot mirrors, and 18-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels. With the XLT trim, you will get body-colored door handles and silver roof-rack side rails, and with the Limited trim, chrome door handles, a hands-free liftgate, LED fog lamps, mirror memory, chrome roof-rack side rails, and 20-inch nickel-painted aluminum wheels. The Sport trim boasts a high-gloss grille with a black-mesh insert, LED taillamps with a unique blackout treatment, quad chrome exhaust tips, black roof-rack side rails, a unique Explorer badge on the hood, and 20-inch aluminum wheels with painted pockets. Featured with the Platinum trim are a unique grille with a satin-chrome finish, satin-chrome mirror caps, rain-sensing wipers, satin-chrome roof-rack side rails, and 20-inch aluminum wheels with dark tarnish-painted pockets.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood, the standard engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 that generates 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. With the Limited trim, you will get a 2.3-liter turbo-4 that is good for 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and with the Sport and Platinum trims, a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 that kicks out 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. All engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard. You can option all-wheel drive on all engines, except for the twin-turbo, which is available in all-wheel drive exclusively.
Performance
The independent front and rear suspension of the Explorer means that it rides smoothly and handles well. For an even better driving experience, the 3.5-liter twin-turbo comes with intelligent all-wheel drive that does not only offer hill-descent control but also the Terrain Management System, which has four drive settings you can choose from depending on the terrain.
Interior
Ford's 2019 Explorer offers a quiet and comfortable cabin. The base trim comes with cargo hooks, color-keyed front and rear carpeted floor mats, a leather-wrapped shift knob, the SYNC infotainment system, cloth upholstery, a second-row 60/40 split-folding bench seat, and an eight-way power driver seat. With the XLT, you can expect a leather-wrapped steering wheel, upgraded cloth upholstery, and the SYNC infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as SiriusXM. The Limited trim features a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 12-speaker audio system, a third-row Powerfold 50/50 split-folding bench seat, perforated leather, and a heated steering wheel, and the Sport trim, unique perforated leather-trimmed seats with red accent stitching. With the Platinum trim comes branded floor mats, power-adjustable pedals with memory, and Platinum premium seating.
