2020 Ford Expedition
You won't find many vehicles with more passenger space than the Ford Expedition. The roomy cabin, combined with the elegant interior and powerful engine, make it the perfect family hauler. The 2020 model arrived with a new King Ranch trim level, and you now get power-folding third-row seats in all models. All trims except the base have smart-charging USB ports in the third row. Here is a closer look at the 2020 Ford Expedition.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Expedition comes in four different trim levels. The base XLT has 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, automatic headlights, and foglights. It also has heated, and power-folding side mirrors. The Limited adds 20-inch wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, LED taillights, and powered running boards. Take a look at the new King Ranch for 22-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, taillights, and foglights, and a panoramic sunroof. Bumping up to the Platinum model gets you an automatic suspension and satin aluminum exterior trim elements.
Engine (Power)
Power for the Expedition comes from a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that develops 375 horsepower. In the Platinum model, this same engine gets 400 horsepower, and all trims have a 10-speed automatic transmission and come with rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is offered as an available option for any of the trims.
Performance
The twin-turbo under the hood of the Expedition provides plenty of power for this large SUV. Acceleration is quick even when starting from a complete stop, and the throttle response is immediate. When you get behind the wheel of the Expedition, it doesn't feel as large as it is. It easily takes corners and offers a smooth ride over most road surfaces. The optional four-wheel-drive handles rough roads and inclement weather, and when equipped with the towing package, it can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
Interior
The standard configuration in the Expedition seats up to eight people, and if you opt for the second-row captain's chairs instead of the bench seat, it can fit seven. The modern cabin has lots of high-end materials and an upscale feel. You'll find 15 cupholders, automatic climate control, and split second-row seats that both slide and recline in the base trim. The Limited adds heated outboard second-row seats, and the Platinum has massaging front seats.
Technology includes an 8-inch touch screen starting with the Limited along with a 110-volt power outlet, the SYNC 3 infotainment system, and Wi-Fi along with wireless charging.
Safety Features
All the Expeditions come standard with a rearview camera with a washer. The Limited adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and along with the XLT, it has the option to add the Driver Assistance Package. The King Ranch adds an active parking assist system for parallel parking. This trim also has a 360-degree surround-view camera system and comes with all the safety features from the Driver Assistance Package. These include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. It also comes with rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic high beam headlights.
