2021 Ford Explorer
The 2021 Ford Explorer is a spacious three-row SUV that offers powerful performance, along with bold yet elegant styling that creates an imposing road presence. Two new models mean you now have a choice of seven trim levels. The Timberline provides even more off-road capability, while the Western-themed King Ranch brings its own unique style.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
For 2021, the Ford Explorer is available in the base Explorer, XLT, Limited, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels. With the base model, you get LED headlamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, power mirrors, a power liftgate, and LED taillights. The XLT adds LED signature lighting and heated mirrors with approach lamps. Limited models offer 20-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, and dual chrome exhaust outlets.
The off-road-ready Timberline has unique styling cues, along with a higher ride height, steel skid plates, black 18-inch wheels, and quad chrome exhaust outlets. The sports-oriented ST gets unique blackout treatment for the trim and lights, 20-inch wheels, a hands-free liftgate, and auto-folding mirrors with turn signals and ST projection lights. The King Ranch gives you model-specific badging, wheels, and chrome accents, while the range-topping Platinum trim features 21-inch wheels and stylish satin aluminum trim.
Engine (Power)
With a perfect blend of power and efficiency, the Explorer's base engine is a 300-horsepower 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that delivers 310 pound-feet of torque. King Ranch and Platinum models feature a 3.0-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine that develops 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. For the ST, the same engine is boosted to generate 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet. The Limited trim is available with a hybrid powertrain that pairs a 3.3-liter V-6 engine with an electric motor for a total output of 318 horsepower.
Performance
Base, XLT, Limited, and King Ranch models feature standard rear-wheel drive and offer the option of intelligent all-wheel drive that is standard for Timberline, ST, and Platinum trims. The ST has sport-tuned suspension, while the Timberline is engineered for optimal off-road performance. The Explorer enables you to tow up to 5,600 pounds.

The Explorer's large, well-appointed cabin seats up to seven people, while you can configure the flexible seating to optimize your passenger and cargo capacity. The base trim offers three-zone automatic temperature control, a Wi-Fi hot spot, smartphone integration, and an 8-inch touch screen.
