Located at the corner of Michigan and Lafayette in downtown Detroit, the American Coney Island hot dog is the godfather of hot dogs in Detroit. They use specially seasoned, high quality, natural casing hot dogs, grilled to perfection and topped with their signature, secret chili sauce. Just the right amount of chopped, sweet onions and fine mustard finish off this classic.

3. Lafayette Coney Island

Located just across the street from American Coney Island is Lafayette Coney Island. As you might imagine, the rivalry is intense. 5. Lorent Coney Island

Another longtime restaurant serving up the classic hot dog is Lorent Coney Island. Located at 601 Schaefer Highway in Detroit, you can get that classic Coney Island creation you crave.

6. Durresi Restaurant Coney Island

At Durresi Restaurant Coney Island, you can get a wide variety of food — from classic diner food, American restaurant, breakfast, and yes, a Coney hot dog. 7. Mussel Beach

Though not in the immediate Redford area, Mussel Beach earns an honorable mention. Located in Bay City, Mussel Beach finished in the top three in the statewide MLive Coney Dog Competition. They steam their hot dog, then grill it, and top it with their signature red sauce. While not known originally for their Coney hot dogs, since the competition, Coney hot dogs have been selling like crazy. So if you find yourself in Bay City, stop in and order one of the best Coney hot dogs in the state.
