Cat Laying DownIf you’re in search of a new canine companion or feline friend, look no further than one of the animal shelters in the Redford area. When you adopt a shelter pet, you’re not only saving a life but also taking home an animal you’ll love and cherish and who will love you right back. Let’s take a look at some of the shelters and the great work they’re doing.

  1. New Beginnings Animal Rescue

New Beginnings started in 2010 as a pet food pantry with the mission of helping cats stay with their owners after the great economic collapse. For the cats that couldn’t be kept, New Beginnings found foster homes to provide care until a new forever home became available. New Beginnings eventually opened a permanent no-kill adoption center in 2013 where cats can live and receive love and companionship until the right adopter comes along.

The center features two rooms where the cats can play with each other as well as meet potential parents. It’s the perfect place to get acquainted with a furry friend.

  1. Michigan Humane Society

Ever since the Michigan Humane Society was formed in 1925, it has provided shelter, care, and love to dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and other small animals. In addition to finding forever homes for hundreds of animals, the organization also investigates animal abuse and neglect cases and rescues animals in distress. Community services provided by the Michigan Humane Society include animal care education, affordable veterinary care, and helping families if their pets go missing. If you’re not currently looking to adopt, there are several volunteer opportunities to help animals in need.

  1. Almost Home Animal Rescue

Almost Home was founded in 2001 with the goal of finding loving and caring forever homes for homeless cats and dogs. The Almost Home staff reviews adoption applications carefully to ensure that every animal is placed in a home that is the best fit. If you’re not sure about permanently adopting a pet, Almost Home has a foster program that allows dogs and cats to live with you for a temporary period of time. This program allows the animals to get used to living with a family and receive extra attention if they need it.

  1. Last Day Dog Rescue

Last Day Dog Rescue is a rescue network with foster homes providing care to dogs and cats across Michigan. While the organization rescues all dogs and cats in need, its main focus is on animals that are likely to be neglected or abandoned because of their breed, age, physical disabilities, or illnesses. In addition to finding these special animals a loving home, Last Day works to reduce the stigma that surrounds specific breeds and disabled animals. Many of the dogs and cats it helps were previously on urgent lists at high kill shelters.

These are just some of the organizations in the Redford area working to help animals. Consider adopting your next pet from one of them to give a dog or cat a second chance at life.
