The hardy Ford Ranger returns to the midsize pickup scene after being out of commission since 2011. Fans will enjoy all-new interior and exterior styling, as well as modern features and impressive towing capabilities. Let’s review everything the 2019 Ranger has to offer.

Versatile Trims

The 2019 Ranger comes in three trims and a whopping 13 configurations. The base XL is just that, basic features on a powerful and dependable truck. The next-level XLT has similar specs but upgraded wheels and grille, technology options, and interior features among others. The top-of-the-line Lariat offers the same engine and configurations as the former two trims, but with even more exterior detailing and technology packages, such as dual display screens, an available Bang & Olufsen sound system, and leather-trimmed seats. You can get any trim as a 4×2 or 4×4 and with a 5- or 6-foot bed.

Depending on which configuration you choose, fuel economy ranges from 18 to 23 mpg combined, which is near the top of the small pickup class.

Comfort and Convenience

The Ranger’s interior is simple yet user-friendly. While the front row is plenty roomy, the compact second row of seats can get a bit cramped. Choose the slightly larger SuperCrew configuration if you plan to haul more than kids or need seating for five. Up front, the adjustable seats offer good support. You can upgrade to get eight-way power-adjustable seats. The cabin is quiet and it boasts great visibility.

Base configurations of the Ranger come with a 4.2-inch display screen with voice controls and much-appreciated features such as a Wi-Fi hot spot. The XLT and Lariat upgrade to an 8-inch screen and a SYNC 3 infotainment system (standard on the Lariat, optional on the XLT). The Ranger also includes many of the features drivers have come to expect and appreciate in today’s trucks, including keyless entry, satellite radio, power outlets, and remote start.

Safety Features

The 2019 Ranger comes standard with modern safety features, such as a rearview camera, a pre-collision system, and automatic emergency braking. You can upgrade to other available safety features, including driver attention monitoring, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Get all the necessary driver-assist technologies with the Ford Co-Pilot360 package that’s standard on the XLT and Lariat.

Power and Performance

What truly sets the Ranger apart from its competitors is its engine and towing capacity. All trims come equipped with an enviable turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost that produces 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The standard 10-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and seamlessly. The Ranger can carry a class-leading 1,560 to 1,860 pounds and can tow up to 7,500 pounds.

If you plan to head off-road, you’ll appreciate the Terrain Management system with traction, stability, and other settings depending on the surface you’re driving on. Ground clearance ranges from 8.4 to 8.9 inches.

The reintroduced and reimagined Ford Ranger offers tons of versatility, along with top safety and towing capabilities. Stop by your local dealership to take a 2019 Ranger for a test-drive.
