One of the most iconic models in the Ford lineup, the Mustang continues to be one of the most innovative and powerful vehicles available in today’s market. This post will discuss the Mustang’s past, present, and future. So sit back, relax, and discover the history of Ford’s beloved Mustang.

Past

One of the greatest things about the Mustang has been its ability to evolve through the years. Ford has offered six different generations of the Mustang, each with its own unique features and capabilities.

Starting with the groundbreaking and wildly popular 1964 Mustang, first-generation Mustangs were manufactured from 1964 to 1973. However, exterior and interior enhancements were added for styling and performance. Second-generation Mustangs were sold from 1974 to 1978. During this time, Ford produced the Mustang II, which was designed as a small sports car with a higher level of fuel efficiency. In an effort to increase fuel economy, the Mustang II slightly sacrificed performance abilities.

From 1979 to 1993, Ford manufactured its third-generation Mustangs. Featuring a newly re-designed Fox body, these upgraded Mustangs handled better and outperformed Mustangs from previous generations. Ford brought on the fourth-generation Mustang from 1994 to 2004. These Mustangs featured a V-6 engine or a robust V-8 engine. Ford offered the V-8 engine with a wide range of power levels, depending on the driver’s preferences.

Fifth-generation Mustangs were produced from 2005 to 2014 and featured a throwback design that mimicked the memorable 1969 Mustang. Engine options included the same choices for V-6 and V-8 engines as in the fourth generation. Sixth-generation Mustangs, built from 2015 to the present day, include similar design features as found in the fifth generation, in addition to new upgrades.

Present

In 2018, the Mustang was redesigned and enhanced, making it an advanced vehicle in terms of design, technology, and performance. Current features for 2018 models include a new-and-improved 5.0-liter Coyote Engine, a 10-speed transmission, and a digital instrument cluster.

For the 2019 model year, the Mustang features a new Bullitt model in its lineup. The new 2019 Mustang Bullitt sports a 5.0-liter V-8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. This robust engine configuration is capable of an impressive 475 horsepower.

Future

The Mustang certainly has a bright future ahead. For 2020, the Mustang Shelby GT500 will be the fastest and most powerful Mustang model to date. With its 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine and dual-clutch transmission, the Shelby GT500 is sure to exhibit thrilling power and speed.

It has been rumored that Ford may be looking at developing a hybrid Mustang in the future, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Ford Mustang has been on the market for decades and still remains a popular high-performance vehicle. Each model year brings about new and exciting changes for the Mustang, which modernizes it without compromising its well-known and loved Mustang charm.
