It’s a lovely day in the Detroit suburb of Redford, Michigan, and you can’t wait to hit the links. Fortunately, you find several public and private courses in the area to suit any skill level. Schedule your tee time at one of these top golfing courses near Redford.

Glenhurst Golf Course

Tee off from the century-old course at Glenhurst, a public golf course that’s been around since 1932. The rolling greens over scenic hills and valleys cater to novice and experienced players alike, with two sets of tees to choose from at each hole. You can rip through a quick nine holes or complete a full 18. Refresh and reenergize after your game with a sandwich from the Glenhurst Grill.

The 18-hole green fees range from $13 to $39, depending on your age, the day of the week, and whether you’re a Redford resident. Need to rent clubs? No problem — Glenhurst has all the equipment and carts you need.

Whispering Willows Golf Course

This compact, tree-lined public course is located just 5 miles outside Redford in Livonia. Its 18 holes provide a good challenge for the average golfer. You’ll face a lot of par 3s, as well as one of the most challenging par 4s in Detroit on the second hole. The facilities also feature a driving range and a putting and chipping green if you just want to practice. You can also grab a meal at Nicky’s Willows Grill on-site. Rates to play the full 18 holes range from $23 to $47.

Fox Creek Golf Course

Fox Creek, also located in Livonia, features a stunning 18-hole course split into two distinctly different nines to accommodate all skill levels. Depending on your range, you can choose to tee off from one of three tee sets. You’ll encounter water on 13 holes, a few tricky sand traps, and maybe even some wildlife. Fox Creek is one of the longer yet more forgiving public courses in the area. A full-service restaurant and sports bar, George Murphy’s, also calls the course home. Eighteen-hole rates run from $23 to $47.

Idyl Wyld

Idyl Wyld completes Livonia’s threesome of public golf courses. This par 70 is the shortest of the three, with small greens, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Bunkers, hills, and water features challenge golfers of all levels. This is a classic ’70s-era neighborhood golf course. It’s down-to-earth but fun to play. Head to the sports bar next door for a bite to eat after. Pay $20 to $35 for a full 18 holes.

Western Golf & Country Club

Established in 1926, the Western Golf & Country Club is Redford’s premier private course. Become a member or play as one’s guest at the parklike 18-hole club. The Donald Ross-designed course features thoughtfully placed ponds and bunkers, as well as the Rouge River. You can choose from four sets of tees to challenge yourself accordingly.

You can find several quality golf courses within the small township of Redford and its neighboring Livonia. Whether you’re looking for a low-key municipal course or a classy club experience, you’ll find a place to perfect your game.
