The Ford Expedition is a huge SUV designed for the serious SUV driver. It has everything you need to haul people and cargo in style and comfort, and it has plenty of power for towing. The Models
You have several different Expedition models to choose from, making it easy to get everything you need. The base XL has 18-inch alloy wheels, running boards, and a roof rack. The XLT adds heated side mirrors and offers the option for keyless entry, a power liftgate, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A step up to the high-end Limited gets you the 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, power-retractable running boards, a hands-free liftgate, and LED taillights. It also comes with rain-sensing windshield wipers.
The high-end King Ranch trim comes with unique exterior trim elements, while a bump up to the Platinum gets you an adaptive suspension and active noise control.
The Power
Power for every Expedition comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This motor generates 375 horsepower and gets 470 pound-feet of torque in most trims. The Platinum boosts the horsepower up to 400, and this trim gets 480 pound-feet of torque. A tow package is optional for any model. When equipped, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
The Safety Features
The Expedition comes standard with a full suite of safety features. In addition to the rearview camera and the Ford MyKey system, Ford Co-Pilot360 driver aids come standard. This group includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, dynamic brake support, and lane-keeping assist. A blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beam headlights are additional standard features. The large Expedition also has a rollover sensor that will activate the side air bags in the event of a rollover, and it has an Advance Trac stability control system that helps keep the SUV more stable during a skid.
The Cabin
Serious SUV drivers need space for people and cargo in their vehicles, and the 2021 Expedition has lots of both. The standard configuration seats eight, with seven seats available if you opt for second-row captain’s chairs. You’ll find just over 20 cubic feet of space behind all the seats. This opens up to 63.6 cubic feet if you fold down the third row and expands to an impressive 104.6 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.
Technology
Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system comes standard with the Expedition and works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system includes an eight-inch touch screen, satellite radio, four USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot even in the entry-level trims. A rear-seat entertainment system is optional, and you can also get HD radio and an upgraded 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo.
